Authorities reported they were notified by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for information.

A high-ranking official stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
