Tragic Update on Cargo Plane Crash: Fatalities Rises to 13
The total count of lives lost due to the transport jet which ignited and went down has now reached 13, according to official reports.
City Leader's Statement
While en route to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a additional fatality that died as a consequence of the aircraft accident,” stated the municipal leader in a public communication. “My heart is with the relatives, companions and colleagues of all who were lost in this recently occurred tragedy. We will endure this collectively.”
Deceased Identified
An announcement from UPS named the flight crew operating the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.
“Our hearts go out to all UPSer who has been touched and all in our community area – supporting you and ensuring you receive the support and resources you need is our priority,” the firm’s communication read.
Inquiry Findings
Government investigators disclosed that the freight aircraft’s wing caught fire and an engine separated shortly after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the aircraft to plummet and explode into a fireball.
The safety agency announced it is investigating the plane’s maintenance history, which was in Texas for repairs several weeks before the incident.
Aircraft data indicated the jet was on the tarmac in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to last week.
“We are aware that this jet was there in San Antonio,” said an investigator on later, without a specific time frame. “We will look at every piece of repairs that was done, even the repair visit, all the way to the date of the flight.”
Retrieval of Vital Components
The audio device and information unit were found, and the motor was discovered on the runway.
The recorders – referred to as black boxes – were designed to endure accident forces and severe temperatures from fires, and they looked to be intact when located amid the wreckage. Officials plan on analyzing recordings from the black boxes.
The plane’s last data recordings displayed an height of that level and a velocity of 210 mph prior to the crash.
Repair History
Per FAA records from last month, a crack on a component inside the center wing fuel tank demanded maintenance.
The company ST Engineering, which indicated it offers aircraft servicing for UPS’s jet and manages a maintenance center in Texas, declined to comment, but expressed it would work closely when relevant authorities contacted it.
Activities Continue
At the same time, the facility services resumed last night with its overnight or evening process, spokesperson Jim Mayer said. The three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also reopened.
The sorting center in this location is the organization’s biggest. The facility employs over twenty thousand individuals in the area, handles 300 trips per day and sorts more than 400,000 parcels per hour.
Local Reaction
A memorial was organized on the late afternoon of that date by the local labor union, which supports workers at the Louisville airport, the company’s primary air cargo hub.
Worker representatives, which stands for employees, began the memorial with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the estimated moment of the crash before.
“This tragedy was so abrupt, so unexpected,” the mayor told the group of attendees. “No one had a moment to part to each of those who we have lost.”
