19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface from spring of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, supported by an better serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first professional title, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
